My 7th grade ELA/Literature classrooms are dynamic and fun. We discuss, we argue, we present and share ideas in a respectful and school-appropriate fashion (most of the time). We engage in poetry and literature (sometimes willingly, sometimes less so), and activate our brain cells along the way. We encounter Shakespeare, S.E. Hinton, Langston Hughes, Billy Collins, Sheila Turnage and others. I believe in the value of reading aloud to my students (who never quite quit being kids) and sharing the excitement of a well-paced novel. At the end of the day, I simply want my students to appreciate and value the beauty and power of words.
