My amazing 4th graders are eager and self-motivated little people who come to school daily with a driven desire to learn. Due to their parents economic status and the fact that they attend a Title I school where resources are limited, a love for reading is minimal and exposure to other forms of technology is nonexistent. Several of my students are ELL/ESOL whom were displaced during the earthquake in Haiti and relocated to South Florida creating barriers. Opportunities to select books, magazines, or any text they can get their hands on are encouraged. More than half of my students have no access to technology in their households, so their classroom is the only means of technology for educational interactive programs, research, and exploring. It is imperative my students engage in selected programs that will assist them in increasing their reading abilities daily, but due to the limited amount of computers within the classroom they aren't able to meet the requirement. They deserve it!
