Our calm down/de-escalation room will have a variety of things from lights to busy boards and sensory mats.
Sometimes students with ADHD, autism, and other exceptionalities feel overwhelmed, overloaded, or just have a negative reaction to what is happening during school. When this happens, they need a break. A lot of times, this break includes sensory items.
Our room will have a variety of choices because each and every student is so unique and their needs change often. This room will help our students self-regulate their feelings and actions to be able to get back on task after getting the break they need.
