We are a Title 1 school with over 90% of the students in low income house holds. I serve a high population of Asian students from Burma, Nepal, Vietnam, and African students from Congo, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea and Ethiopia and many more African countries. Many of the students I teach are ESOL , Special Needs and below grade level. They lack the ability to write effectively because of the language barriers and those with special needs are working below standards. Some of these students have been socially promoted and have difficulty with completing and staying on task, except when they are using technology. Our middle school is a low performing school. it is very transient. Some students have difficulty because the lack the skills for writing, which is the reason for the creative writing class. Our goal as a school is to improve the students skills in order to prepare them for the Common Core Curriculum. With the assistance of flipping the class, it will help students'academics.
