I am requesting materials that can help enhance our dramatic play area in our new playroom. Play helps children learn about the world and society, and it promotes problem-solving, creativity, imagination, and cognitive, social, and emotional development. Because we strongly believe in this, our school is dedicating an entire classroom just to PLAY, but we need these materials to help with that. The refrigerator, table and chairs, play food, and play dishes can be used in the kitchen area of the dramatic play center to mimic working in a home, problem solving, and imagination. Children can pretend to work at various jobs when they are playing with the costumes and the dress up center. The baby dolls and the baby doll clothes can be used to encourage relationship building as well as social and emotional development. All of the materials I am requesting will spark imaginations and let the students explore worlds different from their own. As the research shows, play is an important part of the classroom because it helps develop the child in ways that other strategies cannot. By implementing our new dramatic play area, the students will have the opportunity to mimic appropriate play, encourage each other, inspire imagination, and build a community of peers.
