Children learn by doing. My students come to school with many different experiences, but they need more experiences in the world. Many spend their time at home watching TV shows or watching younger siblings. They don't visit museums or even watch educational TV. They face serious issues such as divorce, death, fear, hunger, and lack of English language skills to name a few. They live in an urban area, and at age 11, many face issues I will thankfully, never know in my lifetime.
