My students are visual Hands on learners, most of them are of Hawaiian descent. The school is located on a Hawaiian Homestead and most of the students receive free and reduce lunches. The students in general want to learn, but they question the relevance and importance of what is being taught. If we can give them the ability to see and feel their projects and let them actually see how their project comes out when they take short cuts to the procedures, they will gain a tremendous amount of knowledge on why they need to follow all the steps. They will also be making a connection to the math they are being taught, math as an abstract subject with no connection to the real world can be hard to understand the relevance however this will provide them the connection to the real world, thus providing relevance for their learning.
