I teach a fun bunch of students with special needs in a high poverty neighborhood in Brooklyn. They're almost all diagnosed with a learning disability. Reading so much as a paragraph is a daunting task. They become very easily frustrated and discouraged. They are in the only special needs class in a gifted and talented school. They want so badly to meet the expectations set for their peers next door.
