In the resource room, I have high but appropriate expectations for my students. Students earn breaks for their perseverance and efforts. Access to self-expression through art breaks has been motivating. I would like to continue to enrich student experiences and add to the supply of art materials that are offered to my students.
I believe education should be student-centered, a joyful and exciting exploration, and that the classroom environment should reflect this.
Studies show that art-centered schools outscore non-art-centered schools in academic achievement scores. Art education can actually help the brain to rewire itself, to make stronger and more plentiful neural connections, and can help build memory skills. Self-discipline, intuition, reasoning, imagination, and dexterity are just a few of the other benefits of an art-filled education, especially for primary school students.
The project requests a variety of art supplies which will be dispersed between two Resource classrooms. It includes art pencils, watercolors, several types of good quality paper and various other art supplies.
“Children have such vibrant minds. They need to play. They need to be creative. They need to imagine. It's so important for their sense of self-discovery. And it helps them learn problem-solving.” - Jan Brett
