Students in our Title 1 school live in the urban community of Taft in Orlando, FL. Many of the students are just learning English and I daily work with the lowest 25% academically in reading and I am also the school media specialist. I work with students teaching basic reading skills and I also read to classes of students visiting me in the library. I keep the library open as much as possible to allow all 400 students to access books whenever they need them. My students are a mixture of races (56% Hispanic, 25% White, 14% Black, 5% Asian) ages PK-5th grade. We also have 3 classes that are Special Education, teaching students below average intelligence and special needs, including wheelchair-bound.
