My students are active and diverse. They are first graders who like to move around, sit by their friends, and ask questions. I have a diverse group of children this year. For some, English is a second language and they are learning the sounds of the letters in the alphabet. Some students are reading chapter books and writing two page stories. With such a myriad of abilities and levels in my room, I must prepare engaging, multi-leveled lessons with varied materials. Students in my classroom are allowed to move around making choices throughout the day during a language program called Daily 5. If you came into my class during Daily 5 you would see some kids listening to stories on tape, some working in a small group with me, others writing in their journals, kids partner reading, or reading to themselves. You would see kids laying on the floor with pillows reading literature.
