90% of my students arrive here from war-torn countries. Our mayor publicly states the immigrants are a "burden upon the city and taxpayers." Yet, when I teach my students music and they perform I feel the excitement, the energy and most importantly: Hope. Music gives my students Hope. Our school is the poorest in the city, surrounded by vacant buildings, drugs and homeless people.
