My students are wonderful. I teach kindergarten through 4th grade supplemental life skills support. I have been a special needs teacher for 10 years. I currently have 14 students in my classroom.
My school is a title one school. This is our first year in this school building. We have been moved several times due to school closings. My principal is awesome. She includes our class in all school activities! If you teach special education you know that is a rare and special opportunity.
Teaching students with moderate and severe intellectual disability who are early readers or nonreaders to engage with grade-level text is challenging.
One of the challenges I face in teaching language arts to students who are just beginning to read or who are nonreaders is creating access to grade-level text. My students need a variety of audio books. I am hoping providing a variety of audio books will help build listening skills, attention span, and help my students become better readers.
