My second grade students attend a low-income school where 54% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. These students love to read more than anything but have not had access to literature that allows them to examine social justice issues from multiple perspective, leading them to hear inaccurate stories on social justice issues. Many of my students have never thought about segregation or poverty but experience these issues in their daily lives.
