During this crisis, I have “made the best” of a bad situation using my phone, an old iPad, and hours and hours of uploading videos to YouTube and Ensemble video platforms. I am committed to synchronous lessons and video conferencing, but my access to collaborative spaces is limited without a laptop or computer. Platforms like Zoom, Schoology, Google Classroom, and others have the capability to engage students in small group breakout rooms, but they are not compatible with tablet apps. Using these breakout rooms for small group meetings, I can support book clubs, group projects, problem-solving think-tanks, team collaboration, and cooperative learning! From the breakout discussions, my students can then return to share what they have learned with the larger group through visual representations and oral presentations. I have been fortunate to use these dynamic tools in Professional Learning Sessions, and I would love to share them with my students!
