I currently have sixteen students (ages 3-5) in my inclusive preschool classroom. Four of these students have an identified disability and are served through Early Childhood Special Education. The other twelve students are at-risk for developmental delay and are served through the Virginia Preschool Initiative. The inclusive classroom setting allows children with specials needs to learn through peer modeling. In turn, the peer models learn empathy and compassion towards others through the children with special needs. All sixteen students bring many different abilities and experiences to the classroom. One thing all the children have in common is that they are very active and love playing together at centers.
