I teach special education in a kindergarten inclusion classroom that supports students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. My classroom includes peer models from which students are immersed in authentic social interactions that allow students with Autism the opportunity to generalize their skills in a classroom environment. Students may need explicit instruction when understanding social relationships and require support and prompting to learn the appropriate social skills. The emphasis of instruction is on developing social, academic, and executive functioning skills.
