I teach in a moderate to low income school of varying ethnicities. Many of the students in my classroom do not have Internet access in the home, are latch-key children from single parent homes and/or are being raised by family members. The types of technology they have access to are a gaming system, a basic laptop and/or audio-visual equipment and whatever the public library offers. Few students have Nooks, or E-Readers, I-Pads or other type tablets/devices.
Technology fascinates their minds and creates a sense of inquiry in their hearts to learn more. They are not intimidated to try anything new and they approach a challenge with great anticipation and the least amount of resistance possible. They are eager to learn, practice and apply previously and newly acquired skills. They LOVE to read. They enjoy reading on various websites, e-books and any type of text sets available on the computers we have in school. However, the availability is limited among 9 teachers.
