All my students are 4th grade Special Education students with Specific Learning Disabilities. Each of my students is very different. In all of my reading and writing blocks I have 11 students. My first block is filled with my lower readers. I use a structured reading approach for them and they have made great gains with reading. The difficulty for them is spelling and transferring the words they can read correctly into their writing. They strive to please me and are usually the quieter ones in their general education classroom setting.
My last two blocks of the day are filled with students with high energy levels and a few with some physical disabilities. These students have difficulties during small group time because they cannot focus or stay on task with the typical "seat work".
All of my students have made great progress in reading this year. They will continue to make progress with my support and I look forward each day to the impact I can make on their lives
