My office has a large window but has bright overhead fluorescent lights that do not assist a student experiencing anxiety. Using floor lamps will allow me to not have the bright overhead lights on, giving the room a calm, relaxed feel to process their issues. Students sitting in my office love to have something to "do" as they process their emotions. Utilizing fidget cubes, Rubixcubes and calming bubblers will give them something to focus on as they explain their worries.
Utilizing appropriate lighting and calming tools will increase my students' ability to process their issues and continue to learn the rest of the day. As a result, they will be able to better reach their goals in their core academic areas, as well as fine and performing arts courses.
