My students are no different from any other kindergartners; all 34 of them are eager to learn anything I can teacher them. While some of my students are English Language Learners in an area with a 95% high poverty rate, these challenges have never intimidated any of them. In fact, they have such a strong work ethic that one of them has literally told me, "Mrs. Naranjo, work is fun because its making my brain bigger!" Their effort isn't in vain, either. Most of them are already working at a first grade reading level. this is huge improvement for kids who began the year lacking the ability to read whole sentences.
