The list of items we came up with, will provide the students with a sense of pride, comfort, and ease in order to free them to learn and focus intellectually. Rarely does a day pass when a student asks for basic classroom needs such as pencils and paper. When things around the classroom feel disjointed and unorganized, the students feel less cared for. This feeling of disorganization adds to the narrative that has been created in our culture: if you're not at a "good" school, you don't deserve "good" things.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. The students in my classes are capable of achieving amazing things. I would like the inside of my classroom to reflect this as much as possible. When a culture of care can be built in our public schools, there is no telling what we can accomplish as a people.
