I teach 3rd grade in a Title 1 building, meaning at least 70% of our students qualify to receive free and reduced meals. Many of our students live in mobile homes, apartments, hotel rooms and sometimes the local mission. In our community, it is often these areas that are most frequented by gang influence, violence and poverty. While faced with many challenges and obstacles everyday our students are resilient, empathetic and full of possibility! In many ways they are just like any other 3rd grader, however they come to us with a different variety of background knowledge, prior experience and skills.
