My students range in age from 11-13 and come from a variety of backgrounds. Our school is home to students from many different nations and over 70% of our kiddos come from low-income households. My students are very involved in making our community a better, healthier, and more sustainable place for themselves and others. For example, the students in the photo I have posted have taught themselves how to test water. They researched areas of our community that are growing and have mapped adjacent creeks and streams. They are planning to teach other students in our school, through science classes, how to protect groundwater and how to test it. After they have introduced others to this topic, they plan to go out and test with other students. Through all of their efforts, they hope to improve their community and engage other students in doing so. These are my kids and I am so lucky to be their teacher!!!
