Our school is known as the technology school. Our students being technologically savvy is the key to their success as they move up the educational ladder onto college and their careers. My classroom is bilingual. I work with an ESL teacher. Some of my students are new to the US. These students are recently here from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Santo Domingo, Guatemala, and Honduras. They have to adjust to a new culture, environment and other social and economic needs.
Because my students come from different backgrounds, it is important to build their base of knowledge by using literature both fiction and nonfiction. They get excited by new ideas and motivated to ask lots of questions. Building our library area, getting new books, tablets and comfortable seating, sets the stage for the students to be ready to learn. This will help them reach the goal of being active learners and their full potential .
