I teach 27 children math, reading and writing in North Philadelphia. The learners are high-energy, thoughtful, curious, and consumers of literature! New books are like celebrities in our classroom. When they arrive, everyone can't stop talking about them, and waiting to find out more about them as soon as possible. The students want to constantly be checked to see if they've moved up a reading level (even if they were just tested earlier that week!). We're reading to learn, and I love hearing all about the new facts or stories that the scholars are reading about each and every day!
