I teach 2nd grade at a wonderful public school nestled in the hills of the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky. I teach 21 eager to learn students. Over 90% of my students come from low income households. Most receive free lunch. It is because of their eagerness to learn that I want to access innovative materials that will enhance their skills and strive to help them retain the knowledge they acquire for the 21st century. A challenge faced by my students is discovering and implementing activities into my lessons that will actively engage them. My students learn best by seeing, hearing, and doing.
