After the first few weeks back at school, I noticed that our youngest scholars were lacking reading materials to fit in their small hands. It takes time and patience to build a true reader, and the donation of board books to our library will assure that every time our littlest scholars visit the library have books they can hold in their little hands, feeling ownership over their own reading and learning.
With libraries already in dire need of funds, PK3 and PK students are usually left with little or no new library choices appropriate for their age, size, and development. Access to appropriate and thoughtfully chosen reading materials can make or break the foundation of building a life-long reader. Additionally, these books would be cataloged and available for check-out by the teacher and/or parents, meaning the donation would serve our entire school community!
