My students are mostly economically disadvantaged. Many of them are English Language Learners. In US History, they are engaging with very challenging content that they often find intimidating. They also sometimes feel disengaged from the community and from the country at large. When we use the iPads, however, they are excited and highly motivated. I teach US history and civics and I hope to help build engaged citizens for our future. When I see my students creating presentations about the Constitution and about the history of our country, I know that I can accomplish this. The technology is the piece that wins over the reluctant learner or the student who is afraid to speak up in class.
