Starting off with the basics will help students dive right into learning. Many of the children have delays in fine motor development, thus leading to challenges in holding writing instruments. The jumbo crayons and pencils are needed so that students begin to develop a functional grasp while they learn to write. For the students who are not currently writing, they are provided pictures symbols to paste answers as a form of written expression. The jumbo glue sticks will aid students in completing tasks that require cutting and pasting. The use of dry erase markers is necessary for participation during English Language Arts (ELA) where children use dry erase boards to practice writing.
What class is fun without ART? I am asking for construction paper as well as paint as the children will be provided with many opportunities over the year to participate in an art center as a part of their learning. The playdough mats will be used during the ELA and Math periods as another center for children.
The laminating pouches will aid in laminating material such as individualized schedules, picture symbols, and file folders, making them more durable for student use. The velcro dots will allow me to secure pictures on schedules as well as to make file folder activities more hands-on.
