As technology in education continues to advance, learning should involve exposing students to 21st century skills. My students are in a K -7th grade building in which they share one computer lab. We have one student computer in my classroom. The students are knowledgable when it comes to using computers and need access to put learning in their own hands.
Having five tablets in my classroom would allow students to use technology daily when they rotate through guided reading groups, help prepare students for higher learning, and create opportunities for students to collaborate their thoughts with one another. Our reading and math curriculum have technology components the students could access with the tablets. Students will be able to research and collaborate on book reports. They will also get to complete the necessary planning for a math project in which they plan a vacation with a managed budget. I also put my students in charge of their classroom behavior which they can manage with a Class Dojo app. Really the technology possibilities are endless on what my students will be able to do with tablets.
