I teach kindergarten students who are 5 when they start kindergarten and turn 6 throughout the school year. My school is the biggest title 1 school in our county and is one of the biggest in the state. Most of the students that I teach come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and some live in subsidized housing developments that are riddled with crime and drugs. My classroom is a place where the students get away from this and can learn the basics that they need to be successful in school and not lead the life of some that they live near.
