Funding this project will allow my students the opportunity to explore realistic topics, be exposed to vocabulary they are unfamiliar with, and clarify their understanding. My students struggle in one of the most crucial areas of reading; comprehension and vocabulary. These two skills are critical for student success in ALL subject areas.
This project was created to help my students obtain resources that will expose them to content which will clarify the meaning of unfamiliar terms, as well as guide them to a better understanding. These materials will be used in a small group instructional setting for the students to practice reading fluency, word recognition, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. The teacher will assist the small group through modeled and guided instruction by demonstrating methods students may use to analyze, define, and understand text. The non-fiction leveled readers will not only be utilized to teach students informational content, but it will also be a resource that will engage student interests to aid in the progression of student achievement.
