Each of the students in my classroom face daily challenges of both receptive and expressive communication with their peers and school staff. My students are able to attend a public school, yet learn in a sub-separate environment with a very high teacher to student ratio. While some of my students are more verbally communicative than others, all of my students would greatly benefit from being able to express themselves via technology based devices.
My students work extremely hard on a daily basis to communicate both receptively and expressively. While some students have communication books filled with pictures to help them communicate, others are working on using simple sentence strips in order to communicate their needs and/or wants.
With the support of assistive technology, my students will have a chance to more easily learn new skills, communicate with their peers and teachers, and more productively demonstrate their knowledge and acquired skills.
