These books will give my students the chance to read a novel that, in a way, is about them. In the book Fish in a Tree, my student will read about characters who are just like them, different. Not every student in my class learns the same way. Fish in a Tree shows them that just because they learn differently does not mean they are not smart or not capable. In addition to seeing themselves in the characters they will also see their peers. Students will learn empathy and understanding through this novel. In addition to the novel, I am asking for a gift card for Teachers Pay Teachers where I can purchase teacher created resources to support our learning. Through this I can purchase materials to support our learning with Fish in a Tree as well as many other content areas.
By adding a class set of Fish in a Tree to our classroom my students will not only learn about themselves and others, they will be immersed in a new novel to give them a broader view of the world.
