I really enjoy my students - most days! Teaching them really is a rewarding experience. I am encouraged by their open minds when we talk of cultural differences and they are curious to learn new expressions - especially the more "sordid" expressions!
Many of my students are of Mexican descent but don't speak much Spanish. Their families have lived in the U.S. for three or more generations and therefore, they hear Spanish often, most do not produce the language themselves. These students are motivated to learn the language of their heritage.
Most of my students realize the importance of learning the language. They know that it will serve them down the road sometime, but sometimes they get stymied by the process. I am working at including more 21st century technologies to draw them in more.
