Students in my school come from a wide range of economic levels, and we have a 35% poverty rate. My class is a diverse group in terms of age, learning styles, and cultural and ethnic backgrounds. I teach first through third grade students, and my classroom is part of a first through fifth grade multi-age program. We group students in a variety of ways throughout the day according to their learning needs, and I work closely with the other two 1-3 teachers. The three of us work with a group of about 50 students, many of whom we work with for three years before they move on to the upper grades. This consistent learning environment allows us to get to know students and families very well, and we can really focus on each individual's strengths as a learner.
