My students come to me from low income families. If we were going to label them it would say 85% disadvantaged. They want to learn and be safe and it is my job to make sure that happens. Some do not have much support at home. Fourth grade can be a pivotal point for many students. They aren't little kids, but they also still need hands on. I want to get them hooked on math and science so that they are ready to compete with kids greater advantages. They need to know that the world is wide open for them to compete in. Many of my students are English Language Learners who need more hands on activities to really get a concrete grasp on math concepts. My kids deserve the world and I want to give that to them by supporting them in the journey to be lifelong learners. These kids have to drive to do great things, they just need a chance.
