I recently discovered flexible seating while researching ways to enhance my classroom and the learning of my students. I was in awe to see how cozy and comfortable the classrooms looked, while my room still looked very traditional with regular tables and chairs. As I researched further, I learned that flexible seating was more up my alley! It was there and then that I knew what had to be done! I would convert my room to a loving and comfortable Starbucks lounge, per say. Coffee anyone?
Students are constantly fidgeting in their seats and we are quick to say, "Sit down! What's wrong with you? Why can't you just sit still?" Well, children are children and for some, a regular table and chair setting just does not cut it. Therefore, flexible seating comes to play. The use of WOBBLE Chairs, balance balls, and balance discs will allow my students to feel comfortable in their classroom environment. I hope to implement flexible seating in my class next year. I will be the first to do so in my school, but I'm hoping that others soon will follow and break that mold of traditional seating.
