Our school is 50% economically disadvantaged, and many students come to us with little to no parent support. Often I have students whose parents do not speak English, so I can't even communicate with them. Our teachers do as much as they can to enrich our students' learning, and spend quite a bit of their own money in the process. The pressure to pass state wide standardized tests is extremely high, and many students experience stress trying to do their best. Unfortunately, often students are bombarded with worksheet after worksheet so that they can become expert test takers. I want to eliminate this way of teaching by using alternative resources with my students.
