My students attend a small middle school in a large urban area. Although the neighborhood in which the school is located has seen a great transformation due to gentrification, most of my students reside in one of the many housing projects located in the area. There are also a few students who live in local shelters.
My students are typical middle school students, with typical middle school problems. However, there are a few of my students who have gone through tragic events that no one there age should ever be exposed to. From abuse, to loss of parent, and loss of home, these students have managed to endure the storm.
