Greetings! My name is Jay Stimac and I teach K-5 music at Pat Diskin Elementary School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pat Diskin is a school of about 700 students located in the Spring Valley neighborhood. Our school is a Title I school, which means a high percentage of our students come from low-income families. As a result, we often do not have the resources or materials that students at wealthier suburban schools enjoy. Regardless, our students are bright and eager to learn. They embrace technology and they jump at the chance to use critical thinking skills to solve problems.
As a music teacher, it is my goal to bring the arts alive for my students. I strive to provide engaging student-centered lessons that make implicit the connection between creativity/artistic development and the skills necessary to succeed in the twenty-first century.
