My students come from an area of extreme poverty and crime. They have a diverse ethnic background. Many of my students did not attend preschool or have been exposed to a structured environment like a classroom. Our school is a Title 1 school in one of the biggest cities in the US to go bankrupt. We have a high poverty rate and a low parental involvement rat our school. Our school is an AVID school which is design to help students whose parents did not attend college gain the necessary organizational skill and study habits that are needed in college.
I also coach Women's Varsity Soccer at our Local High School Bear Creek where many of my Oakwood Students end up going.
