My students range from grades K-6th and have mild/ moderate disabilities. Last year, the teachers struggled to show our school of 800 students, how to use technology, when the technology was not available. Our school shared one laptop cart, one I Pad cart, and one computer lab of 30 computers last year. This year, we have been granted with an additional I Pad cart with keyboards. As I sat down at the table with the new technology, I saw my students' excitement. We started with an educational video, and my students' excitement turned to confusion/grumbling as they were unable to individually hear the sound on their device. The room was too loud, the sound from their neighbors I Pad distracted them. I had a couple ear buds from the previous year I had found, but right away noticed ear buds don't work well for my students due to sensitivities. The ear buds hurt their ears, didn't fit, and fell out. I knew then I would have to find lightweight earphones for my special needs students.
