My classroom is quite eclectic. We have many children who do not have English as their home language and have very little early school experience. My class this year will have 22 students, 8 of whom speak a second language at home. I am also the special education class this year and will have several students on Individual Education Plans.
My school has worked very hard to overcome many challenges and has become a very positive place to learn and work. It is a large school stretched to the limit. There are 25 classrooms from k-4, 3 substantially separate special education classrooms, and 2 classes to support newcomer students. We offer tutoring as an intervention, however, it is never enough.
