This year we will have over 70 upcoming freshman with less than a 40% chance of passing the NC end of course exam for Math I. We have put these students into an A/B day schedule with Foundations of math and Math I meeting alternating days. As their foundations teacher, I feel that is my responsibility to teach them how to learn and grow into better students.
These students are not confident in their abilities to do math and as a result, can become behavior problems if there are not enough interventions in place. They are however, eager to please and with the right encouragement, I know that with the help of their Math I teacher, and their peers, they can start to feel confident enough to enter Math II as an honors student.
