Glade Creek School is a K-8 school. Glade Creek School has a high poverty rate, 63.5% of our students are eligible for free or reduced lunches. Alleghany is a poor district filled with disadvantaged students that come from single-parent families, low-income families, or have at least one parent who did not earn a high school diploma. These students historically underachieve. Funding through Donors Choose will provide our PreK and Kindergarten students with some much needed playground equipment. We have a very tight budget at our small, rural, low income school. Sadly, playground equipment is considered to be a luxury and not a necessity. Playgrounds are the perfect place to develop skills in taking turns, critical thinking, and showing better cognitive behaviors as well as an increase in social skills. Research shows that playing outside is very important to early childhood development.
