One of the best ways to get better at reading is to hear proficient readers. Students already hear my example through read alouds and shared reading experiences, but that is not enough. I would like for my students to be able to listen to stories and songs very day.
In order to provide my students with the chance to listen to stories and songs, I need new and reliable technology. Not only is it difficult to rely on CDs and casette tapes, there are no longer CD players nor tape players to use for such media! It is my hope that through your generosity, I will be able to acquire two precious resources: iPod shuffles and wireless headphone.
The iPod shuffles can each be loaded with stories and songs so that students can listen independently. Such technology will allow them to listen over and over again to hear proficiency and to develop favorites they can later choose to read on their own. The headphones can be used at the classroom computers. We currently have no headphones but we do have access to many websites with stories and activities that the children will LOVE to hear!
Thank you for your generosity!!
