Our student population is primarily low income. We are between 70 and 80 percent free and reduced lunch. The school is a true community school with students coming only from this area. Most of our students have the desire to learn and want to do well, however, lack of support and finances at home keep them from being able to complete many activities that would enrich their education. Any time I give an assignment, I make sure they have all supplies needed to complete the activity. Many times this comes out of my pocket. We do have parent involvement, but many students live in single parent homes and these parents are on fixed incomes. Because of limited resources, there are some activities I cannot do with my students. Our classes are self contained so I teach all core subjects.
