My students come from a low income area where 95% of our school population is on free or reduced lunch programs. Most of my students live in apartments and do not have access to yards or gardens. This past school year we began our "kindergarden" project by reusing old tires to create flower, herb, and vegetable garden planters. My students were so thrilled and excited but most importantly they were proud of what they had accomplished. The students came to school everyday ready to learn and work. This school year these same students will still be involved with our garden project but they will buddy up with our new kindergarten students and work on garden projects together. The students at our school are learning to team up and work together to create a better school and community that is welcoming, caring, and accepting of everyone.
